SMS Policy
Community Pledge LLC ("Community Pledge," "we," "us," or "our") operates a fundraising platform at communitypledge.org that helps nonprofit organizations and community groups manage donation campaigns. This SMS Messaging Policy explains how we use SMS text messaging, how recipients opt in, how to opt out, and what to expect from our messages. By providing your phone number and consenting to SMS as described below, you agree to this policy.
1. Program Description
Community Pledge sends one type of transactional SMS: pledge reminders. When a supporter agrees to make a donation pledge, we send up to three SMS reminders containing a secure link so they can complete the donation. We do not send marketing messages, promotional offers, fundraising solicitations, or messages unrelated to a recipient's existing pledge.
Reminders stop as soon as the donation is completed. A recipient who completes their donation immediately, or who opts out, will receive fewer than three messages.
2. How You Opt In
We send SMS messages only to recipients who have explicitly consented. We do not purchase, rent, share, or send to third-party contact lists. Consent is obtained through one of the following pathways:
Verbal Consent During a Pledge Call
Most SMS messages we send originate from a live phone conversation between a nonprofit team's authorized fundraiser and a supporter who has agreed to make a pledge. During that call, the fundraiser is required to read the following script and obtain verbal consent before SMS messaging begins:
"Is it okay if we text you a few reminders about your pledge? You can opt out anytime."
The fundraiser must affirmatively check a TCPA compliance checkbox in our internal system stating "I have read the script above and the donor agreed to receive SMS reminders" before the pledge can be saved. The form will not allow the pledge to be created until this checkbox is checked. The timestamp of consent is recorded in our database alongside the pledge record.
Account-Level SMS Preference Toggle
Registered users with a Community Pledge account can enable or disable SMS notifications at any time from their Account → Notification Preferences page. The toggle is disabled until a phone number has been added to the user's profile. Enabling the toggle records an explicit opt-in timestamp in our database. Disabling it records an opt-out timestamp and immediately stops all SMS sending.
Re-Subscription via Keyword
Recipients who have previously opted out can re-opt-in by replying START, UNSTOP, or YES to any message from our number. The re-opt-in timestamp is recorded in our database.
3. Sample Message
Below is the verbatim template of every SMS message Community Pledge sends. Items in curly braces are filled in with the recipient's actual pledge details at send time.
Hi {donorName}! Thank you for your {amount} pledge to {campaignName}. When you're ready to complete your donation, visit: {donationUrl}
Your support means everything to {teamName}!
Reply STOP to unsubscribe.4. Message Frequency
Up to three messages per pledge: an initial reminder when the pledge is created, a follow-up approximately three days later, and a final follow-up approximately seven days later. Reminders stop the moment the donation is completed or the recipient opts out.
We do not send recurring marketing messages. A recipient who does not make additional pledges will not receive additional SMS messages from us.
5. Sending Hours
We restrict SMS sending to the hours of 8:00 AM to 9:00 PM, consistent with Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA) guidelines. If a message is queued outside of these hours, it is held and delivered the next morning at 8:00 AM.
6. How to Opt Out
You can opt out of SMS messages from Community Pledge at any time using any of the following methods:
- Reply STOP, STOPALL, UNSUBSCRIBE, CANCEL, END, or QUIT to any message from our number. Opt-out is processed immediately and you will receive no further SMS messages from Community Pledge.
- Toggle SMS Notifications off in Account → Notification Preferences if you have a registered account.
- Email admin@communitypledge.org and request removal.
For help, reply HELP or INFO to any message, or contact us at the email above.
7. Carrier Rates
Message and data rates may apply. Community Pledge does not charge a fee to receive SMS messages, but your wireless carrier may charge for sending and receiving text messages depending on your plan. Contact your carrier for details.
8. Service Provider
Community Pledge uses Twilio Inc. as our SMS delivery provider. Phone numbers and message content are transmitted to Twilio for the sole purpose of delivering the messages described in this policy. Twilio's privacy practices are governed by their Privacy Policy.
We do not sell, rent, or share recipient phone numbers with any other third party for marketing or any other purpose. Phone numbers are stored only for the duration needed to support the pledge they were collected for, and are otherwise governed by our Privacy Policy.
9. Compliance and Recordkeeping
Community Pledge maintains the following records to support regulatory compliance:
- Opt-in timestamps for every recipient, with the consent pathway recorded (verbal consent during pledge call, account toggle, or keyword re-opt-in).
- Opt-out timestamps and the keyword or method used to opt out.
- A full message log including recipient phone number, message body, send timestamp, and delivery status returned by our carrier provider.
- Webhook signature validation on all inbound SMS to prevent spoofed opt-out or opt-in requests.
